The Dog Blog

Planning a trip to Galloway View with your furry friend? Look no further! This paw-some area offers stunning scenery, charming towns, and plenty of places where both you and your pup can relax and refuel.

With more people than ever before taking their dogs on holiday, there is a need for dog friendly attractions, restaurants, cafes and bars.  At Galloway View we’ve listened to you and have made three of our properties dog friendly.

You can now bring along two of your furry friends to Sea Glass and High Tide, our two bedroom lodges and Fleet View; our three bedroom cottage with an enclosed garden perfect for dogs.

This dog blog will showcase some of the great places you can take your dog that are truly dog friendly in Gatehouse and nearby, so you no longer have to worry about leaving your canine companions behind.

For the Foodies:

·         Pub Pups: After exploring the town, head to the renowned Masonic Arms. This historic pub boasts a dog-friendly beer garden and bar area, perfect for a relaxed drink and a hearty pub meal with your furry pal.

·         Cream of the Crop: For a sweet treat, take a scenic drive to Cream o' Galloway near Kirkcudbright. This farm shop and café welcomes well-behaved dogs and offers delicious ice cream, coffee, and light lunches. They even have a designated dog walking field and a trail around their loch for your pup to burn off some energy.

·         Feast Café: This vegetarian café is a local favourite, known for its delicious homemade food and warm welcome to furry friends. It is located in nearby Kirkcudbright, less than 15 minutes away.

·         The Belfry: Enjoy a classic afternoon tea or a light lunch at this charming café, also located in nearby Kirkcudbright. The Belfry is the perfect spot for a relaxed break with your canine companion and offers a wide range of dog delicacies too, from tasty treats to Puppaccino’s.

For the Adventurers:

·         Fleet-side Fun: Explore the scenic surroundings of Gatehouse of Fleet with a walk along the River Fleet. This peaceful path is a great way to stretch your legs and enjoy the fresh Scottish air with your four-legged friend.

·         Woodland Woofs: Head to Cally Woods for an adventurous dog walk. With miles of trails to explore, your pup will love sniffing out new sights and smells and you can walk there from Galloway View.

·         Garden Games: Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the Threave Gardens near Castle Douglas (dogs are welcome on a lead in the grounds, but not the house). This beautiful estate boasts a variety of themed gardens and plenty of space for your pup to explore on a leash.

Please check with individual establishments before your visit to confirm their dog-friendly policy and opening hours. With stunning landscapes, delicious food, and pup-friendly places to stay and play, Dumfries & Galloway is the perfect destination for a dog friendly getaway.
