It's been a distinctly soggy start to 2026 and it's made us think about what to do when the weather isn't ideal. We have plenty of great little places to explore if a sunny day isn't on the cards and lots to do at Galloway View when it rains!

At Galloway View

You don't even have to leave your holiday home to enjoy lots of great things to do on a rainy day.

Wood Fired Sauna

Our wood fired sauna gives you all the cosy heat you could want, whilst enjoying the spectacular views; and if you're brave, why not make the most of the cold plunge too. It's right next to the sauna so once you've 'dooked' in the cold plunge, you can head straight back into the sauna. Our sauna and cold plunge are available to all guests.

Hot Tubs

Our Snugs; Annabelle's Den, Beth's Bothy and Jack's Hideaway, and our three bedroom cottage Fleet View, all have private hot tubs. There's nothing better on a rainy day than relaxing in the hot tub and enjoying the rain falling whilst you're lovely and warm.

Wood Burning Stove

It might be a cliché, but if you don't fancy heading out on a rainy day, there's nothing better than curling up in the warmth, in front of a fire and reading a book (or listening to one). Our two bedroom lodges Galloway View and High Tide, and our three bedroom cottage Fleet View, all have wood burners installed and sofas overlooking fantastic views to enjoy whilst you're cosy inside.

Gatehouse of Fleet

Just a short drive from Galloway View, Gatehouse of Fleet is ideal for enjoying lots of independent shops and cafes.

A beautifully curated independent shop offering handmade soaps, candles, skincare and thoughtful gifts. It’s the perfect place to browse for something unique and locally made.

Gatehouse is also home to several small galleries, craft shops and gift boutiques, prefect for spending a rainy afternoon.

A firm local favourite for coffee, brunch and lunch. Warm up with a freshly brewed coffee and homemade cake, or settle in for a relaxed lunch.

It’s welcoming, friendly and exactly what you want on a drizzly afternoon.

A wonderful heritage centre and café set in a restored cotton mill by the river. Inside you’ll find exhibitions on local history, wildlife and the town’s industrial past. It’s both informative and atmospheric; and the café is a lovely spot to watch the rain fall over the river.

Kirkcudbright

Known as “The Artists’ Town”, Kirkcudbright is a cultural gem with lots of options for a wet day.

A fantastic indoor experience for all ages. The immersive dome shows explore astronomy, space exploration, and the night sky. It’s engaging, educational, and especially fitting given Galloway’s Dark Sky status. They host events throughout the year, both relating to space and also show a number of other films and music in the dome.

A fascinating small museum packed with local history, artefacts and stories from across the Stewartry. It offers insight into everything from rural life to notable local figures, making it a brilliant stop for anyone curious about the area’s heritage.

A cosy and welcoming wine bar in the heart of town. Ideal for a relaxed glass of wine, local beers, or a delicious charcuterie board while enjoying the log fire. It’s warm, friendly and perfect for a slower-paced afternoon.

The Cocoa Bean Company (just outside Kirkcudbright)

A brilliant rainy-day destination, particularly for families. It offers chocolate-making workshops and a large indoor play area for children, as well as a café. Sweet treats and entertainment in one place — what more could you ask for?

Further Afield in the Stewartry

More than just a farm shop, Ernespie offers a café, gift shop and an indoor soft play area for children. Parents can relax with coffee and cake while the kids burn off energy, making it an ideal all-weather stop. If you're going without kids, there is a separate café where you can relax and enjoy a locally sourced lunch away for the kids.

A surprisingly captivating attraction for all ages. This museum houses one of the UK’s largest collections of gemstones, crystals and fossils and has a great gift shop and café.

It’s colourful, unusual and fascinating; highly recommended.

Embracing the Rain

One of the joys of staying at Galloway View is knowing that whatever the weather, there’s always something to discover. After a day browsing independent shops, exploring museums, or enjoying coffee and cake in a welcoming café, you can return to your lodge, light the stove, hop in the hot tub or enjoy the sauna. Sometimes, the best memories are made on the rainiest days.
